Better child development

Our curriculum

At Loughborough University Nursery, we believe every child deserves a joyful, meaningful start to their learning journey. Our curriculum is built around five core pillars that nurture communication, creativity, wellbeing, physical development and playful learning - giving children the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

We make learning visible through rich experiences, strong relationships and purposeful play. Our approach is rooted in research, guided by expert practitioners, and shaped by each child’s unique interests and needs.

Discoverers (0-2 years)

A secure start for curious minds.

In our Discoverers rooms, babies and toddlers build strong attachments with familiar adults, forming the foundation for healthy relationships and confident exploration. Through sensory play, heuristic experiences and responsive communication, children begin to understand their world, develop early language and build core physical skills - all in a calm, nurturing environment.

Explorers (2-3 years)

Growing independence through play.

Explorers are encouraged to follow their curiosity, make choices and express themselves. Our curriculum supports their rapid development in language, movement and emotional regulation. At this age, children are discovering just how physically capable they are - learning to run, jump, climb and ride as they explore their growing strength and coordination. With outdoor adventures, creative experiences and rich communication environments, children build resilience, confidence and a sense of belonging - preparing them for the next stage of learning.

Investigators (3-5 years)

Confident learners ready for the future.

In our Investigators rooms, children deepen their thinking, expand their vocabulary and develop early literacy and maths skills. They learn to collaborate, reflect and problem-solve through imaginative play and guided teaching. With a focus on executive function, emotional intelligence and creative exploration, children leave us ready for school - and ready to succeed.
