Celebrating warmth and togetherness

Happy Hygge Thursday! We hope you enjoyed starting your morning with a little treat, fresh muffins and apple juice, offered as a small gesture of appreciation for all our wonderful parents and carers. You do so much each day, and we love giving you a cosy, comforting start to your morning as we celebrate the season and the joy of togetherness.

For our new families who have joined us this year, we’d love to share a little more about one of the pedagogical approaches that inspires our practice: the Scandinavian concept of Hygge. Hygge is all about warmth, connection, simplicity, and creating moments of calm in the busyness of everyday life. It encourages us to build safe, soothing spaces where children - and their families - feel emotionally secure, welcomed, and valued.

You may have noticed touches of Hygge throughout our nursery: soft furnishings, natural wooden furniture, warm-toned lighting, and a gentle start to the mornings as children settle in for breakfast. We intentionally avoid harsh overhead lighting early in the day, creating a calm atmosphere that helps children transition smoothly from home to nursery without overstimulation.

Offering muffins and apple juice today is just one small way we extend this ethos beyond the classroom. Hygge reminds us to slow down, savour simple pleasures, and nurture our relationships - something we hold dearly in our partnership with you. When parents feel supported and welcomed, children feel it too.

We hope you carry a little Hygge warmth into the rest of your day. And if you’d like ideas for simple Hygge-inspired activities at home, our team would be delighted to share some with you.
